The Origins

Imagine the first sip of La Familia Cider- refreshing, bold, and unmistakably authentic. Behind that flavor is a story rooted in tradition and driven by a deep commitment to honoring a heritage. In 2017, the Gonzalez family took their cherished family recipes and crafted something entirely new: a cider that carries the essence of Mexican culture in every can. La Familia Cider started as a way to bring the beloved flavors of Mexican aguas frescas into the world of cider. As La Familia Cider grew from its humble beginnings into a brand now featured in over 500 retailers across the Pacific Northwest, the Gonzalez family remained steadfast on one thing: preserving their cultural legacy at the heart of everything they do.

Representing La Familia on their Packaging 

When you go to a gathering hosted by the older Latino community, cider isn’t the first thing you’d see on the table- beer is the classic staple beverage. Millennials and Gen-Z are typically the first to embrace cider as a casual favorite. The Gonzalez family wants to bridge the gap between generations and introduce cider products to those who have yet to experience them.

La Familia approached us to design the packaging for their signature Jamaica (Hibiscus) and Guayaba (Guava) ciders in a way that would be representative of their values and history. We presented them with a visual story that carries their rich tradition into every retailer. 

“We call La Familia Cider the American dream in a can. If I see it at the store, I still get chills. That doesn’t go away” - Jose Gonzales, dad and co-founder.

One of our design goals was to give the customers a taste of the excitement Jose feels whenever he sees one of their products on the shelf.
